Each blast loosens around 20,000 tonnes of rock, enough to lay 1 mile of a single carriageway road.

Huge face-loading shovels scoop up 15 tonnes of rock at a time, the equivalent weight of 3 fully grown elephants, and load it into massive dumper trucks.

The dumpers take their load of large rocks to the primary crusher.

Partly crushed stone moves up the conveyor belt to the mid station and up to the selector station at the top.

At the selector station the rock can be crushed into smaller pieces if necessary and is sorted into different grades.
